The bustling Stanley Street in East Brisbane is where you’ll find The Catbird Seat Bistro – a chic, suburban restaurant serving contemporary Australian cuisine. Although easily missed, their ever-changing, unique menu is one you must investigate!

They have both lunch and dinner sittings. A special Prix-Fixe lunch menu is available, allowing you to have two courses from their à la carte lunch/dinner menu for $35.00 or three courses for $45.00. They also cater for intimate events for medium-sized groups of 20-30 people.

Each visit to The Catbird Seat Bistro is a memorable one. The menu changes daily to weekly, depending on the local produce and inspiration found by the chefs. The flair and creativity of the chefs exudes through the food and the complexity of each dish will astonish you.

Stand out dishes from the entree selection are the Market Oysters, Steak Tartare with mulberry, daikon, cured yolk and horseradish and Chicken Liver Parfait with citrus, honey and wattleseed bread. Although they read simple on the menu, the textures and flavour combinations are magical. The Chicken Parfait will leave you in awe over the beauty and taste. The sweet citrus and honey balances the smokiness of the parfait perfectly. The mixture of textures creates such a fun plate for all of your senses to enjoy.

Mains not to miss include Chicken Breast Fillet with corn, wilted greens and chicken gravy and Potato Gnocchi with garden peas, ricotta, mint and lemon. The chicken breast is sous-vide and then pan fried, leaving the breast perfectly moist. The corn is presented in many different forms, however the highlight is undoubbtedly the corn custard. Trust me – you’ll want to order a bowl of this custard to eat alone. It’s sweet, creamy and oh so moreish. The potato gnocchi has a similar set up. Peas are featured many ways but the bed of pea puree will surprise you in the best way possible. The unexpected subtle addition of mint cuts through the heaviness of the potato gnocchi is damingly satisfying.

End the experience on a high with dessert. The Berry Cheesecake with smoked goat’s cream and the Juniper Meringue with yogurt sorbet and pickled pear are both great choices. The Juniper Meringue plate has a cloud of marshmallow-like meringue, crispy meringue and yogurt sorbet towered on the sides. It sits on a bed of pickled pear which cuts through the sweet meringue. The cold yogurt sorbet also helps balance the dish. The Berry Cheesecake has unusual pops of flavour. The thin, crispy twill adds texture and a spice. Smoked goat’s cream mixed with the sweet cheesecake may be an acquired taste.

A dining experience that will amaze you and make you question yourself why you haven’t been before.
